"Risk-Aware Optimal Camera Placement for Forest Fire Detection and Monitoring"
As part of the UNICORN Project, researchers Marco Galatola and Dario Salza from Fondazione LINKS – Leading Innovation & Knowledge for Society presented their work at OL2A 2025 – the 5th International Conference on Optimization, Learning Algorithms and Applications.
? The study addresses the critical challenge of improving wildfire surveillance, particularly in complex mountainous terrains where visibility and hazard levels fluctuate significantly.
By integrating detailed fire risk maps with advanced metaheuristics - Genetic Algorithms, Tabu Search, and Particle Swarm Optimization - the research offers a practical, scalable solution to prioritizing high-risk areas under limited-resource constraints.
